Program Title : GFDISK
Program Author : George K. Fu
(805)372-6853
Program Type : UTILITY
Executive File : GFDISK.EXE
Release : 1.00(Initial release)
Date Released : 08/31/92
Program Purpose : This is a utility program that display/list ALL the active
disk drive(s) connected to the LOCAL PC in REAL TIME.
The program will determine which drive is connected to
the PC locally and which drive is attached to the
PC remotely via a connection to the Local Area Network(LAN).
The program will display most characteristics of the
drive(s) and compute FREE DISK SPACES on ALL of them.
ALL computed data will be displayed in a "graphical" text
mode so that users will be able to determine which drive
have the most available space and which drive need to be
clean up!
I wrote this "quicky" program since I Have 7 Local Drive
partitions and 6 Remote drives attached to the Local
Area Network. I need something to display ALL logical
drive usage in ONE screen and in real time. Especially
if I have to hunt for a logical drive which have the space
for me to install a HUGHE program or trasfer some of
the data into. This progrm makes it handy for me.
Program Usage : To run the program in variuos mode, type one of the command
below at the DOS prompt:-
GFDISK{Enter key} Execute the program and
go to 'FREE Space Display'
in real time mode.
GFDISK <Drive Letter> {Enter key} Detail diaplay of ONE of
the ACTIVE drive.
GFDISK 9 {Enter key} Output a list of ALL the
ACTIVE drives.
GFDISK ? {Enter key} Display a Help message of
the usage of this program.
For example:
To display Drive C: in detail real-time mode:
GFDISK c {Enter Key}
To print out a list of all the drives and their
characteristics in DETAIL to the device LPT1:
GFDISK 9 > lpt1: {Enter Key}
The user screen will constanly updated as the spaces of
the remote drives change in real time. The screen update
will occur approximatly 4 seconds. Users will be able
to switch to other display mode. For example, if you
start the program by typing in "GFDISK" by itself, it will
go to 'Free Space Display' in real time. You can switch
to 'Verticle Bar Chart' display by pressing the NUMERIC key
'1'. If you like to see the DETAIL information of an
ACTIVE drive, just press that drive's name(ie. 'c' for drive
C:, 'f' for drive F: etc.).
Special Note :There seems to be a "delay" any time you press a key
during the execution of this program. The "delay"
actually come from the system tries to update the
screen automatically after a predefined "time-out".
The current "time-out" sets to approximately four
seconds. Thus, there may be "delay" of four seconds
after you press a key to switch or try to exit out
from the program. If I take this "time-out" feature
away, the screen will be updated so fast that you will
see it "blinkng" at you.
Conclusion :Everyone is more than welcome to copy this program and
pass it to someone who might benefit from it. However,
ONLY distribute the ORIGINAL UNMODIFIED file("GFDISK.ZIP")
please!
